Dueling Proposals to Reopen Government Fail in Senate Vote as Schumer Shutdown Drags On

**Schumer Shutdown Day 9**

Dueling proposals to reopen the government failed in the Senate for the 7th time on Thursday.

On October 1 at 12:01 am, the government partially shut down because two measures failed in the Senate.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer rejected the House-passed, clean, short-term stopgap funding bill to keep the government open.

Instead of working with Republicans to responsibly extend funding until November, Schumer chose a shutdown.

Airports went dark this week because Schumer’s priority is to give illegal aliens taxpayer-funded healthcare.

The Democrat-backed proposal – which funds healthcare for illegal aliens – failed in a 47-50 vote.

The Republican proposal also failed to get the 60 votes needed. The Dems blocked the GOP bill in a 54-45 vote.

GOP Senator Rand Paul voted with the Democrats to block the GOP-backed proposal.

The House is currently out of session.

Schumer blasted Speaker Mike Johnson in an unhinged speech from the Senate floor on Thursday.

“Hear that, Mr. Speaker? Good Americans in your own state will die. All because the Speaker chose to keep the House on vacation, rather than negotiate with Democrats, and end their Trump shutdown. Shameful!” Schumer said.
