A Cleveland, Ohio woman with a rap sheet stabbed a woman and her toddler in a grocery store parking lot in June 2024.

The 38-year-old mother survived but her 3-year-old son died from his injuries.

Bionca Ellis, 32, grabbed a knife from a thrift store and followed Margot Wood and her toddler son Julian Wood around in the grocery store before stabbing them in a Giant Eagle parking lot in North Olmstead.

Authorities called the stabbing a “random” attack.

Bionca Ellis was arrested on May 30, 2024 for a probation violation but she was released.

“According to Det. Sgt. Beck, Ellis was arrested May 30 [2024] after officers investigating an incident at Walmart discovered she was wanted for a probation violation.” – WOIO reported.

Ellis was charged in 2023 with stealing from a Walmart.

According to WOIO, Ellis was charged with aggravated murder in connection with the fatal stabbing and was held on a $1 million bond.

On Monday Ellis was sentenced to life in prison without parole.

News5Cleveland reported:

Bionca Ellis, the woman who fatally stabbed 3-year-old Julian Wood last year in a North Olmsted grocery store parking lot, was sentenced on Monday morning to life in prison without parole.

On an emotional morning in which family members and the community remembered and mourned the boy who lost his life, Judge John J. Russo issued the sentence the boy’s parents requested. “Justice cannot undo tragedy,” Russo said. “Mental illness does not excuse what you did.”

Jared Wood, Julian Wood’s father, said his family is missing out on the time they should get to spend with him.

“All of our hearts will forever be missing a piece,” Jared Wood said.

Margot Wood, who was also injured in the stabbing, said she watched her son take his first breaths and had to hold him in her arms, covered in blood, taking his last breaths.
