Democrat Senator Chris Coons (D-DE) has finally let the cat out of the bag, admitting on national television that his party is willing to starve hardworking American families and deny them critical SNAP benefits, all in the name of grabbing “leverage” in their endless war against President Trump’s pro-America agenda.

During Friday’s broadcast of C-SPAN’s “Ceasefire,” Coons didn’t even try to hide his party’s ruthless tactics amid the ongoing Schumer shutdown.

With Republicans firmly in control of the House, Senate, and White House after the American people’s resounding mandate in 2024, Coons whined that this shutdown “is our only moment of leverage.”

“[T]his is principally a fight over health care and trying to prevent what’s going to happen on November 1, which is millions of Americans get notices that their health insurance is going to double in cost. That’ll impact all Americans.

We’re going to see emergency room wait times go up, total health coverage go down. President Trump ran for president on lowering costs and making America healthy again.

He’s actually doing the opposite, and the consequences of the so-called big, beautiful bill, in terms of throwing millions of Americans off of health care in the coming years, is something that Democrats consider a crisis.

Republicans control the House, the Senate, and the White House. Frankly, this is our only moment of leverage, and although a very unpleasant tool to use.”

Sen. Coons isn’t alone in admitting the truth. House Minority Whip Katherine Clark (D-MA) made nearly identical remarks last week, acknowledging that Democrats are deliberately using the shutdown as “one of the few leverage times we have.”

During a CNN interview, Clark was confronted with her own words after telling Fox’s Chad Pergram that “shutdowns are terrible” and “families are going to suffer,” but still defended it as a necessary political tactic.

“We take that responsibility very seriously. But it is one of the few leverage times we have,” Clark said, sounding almost proud of the suffering her party is inflicting on working families.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt didn’t hold back, calling out the cruelty of Clark’s statement:

“The Democrats are now admitting that they are intentionally causing American families to suffer with their reckless government shutdown. What is wrong with them?”

Rather than take accountability, Clark immediately accused Leavitt of spreading “half-truths” and “taking things out of context.”
