Dave Portnoy Considers Moving Barstool Sports Out of NYC Because of Mamdani

Before the 2025 NYC Mayoral election, Barstool founder Dave Portnoy had strong words for Democrat Gen Z voters embracing socialist candidates like radical NYC Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani.

Portnoy told Fox Business host Stuart Varney, “Blahhhh..makes me want to puke, Stuart. That’s how I feel about that.”

“Listen, these are college kids. They’ve probably never had a job in their lives. They’ve grown up, probably coddled, reading books about how the world is. But they’ve never been in the real world.”

“I don’t like any government that disincentivizes initiative, working hard…and that’s what socialism does.”

The week before the election, during a livestream, Portnoy shared that he is considering moving his company out of NYC.

An audience member asked Portnoy to consider closing the NYC office.

He responded, “Honestly, I’ve given that a lot of thought, and he’s definitely going to win.”

“Going to Hoboken or Jersey City or something…I don’t want to have a fu***** office…But then we have all those people who, like, that f**ked up their life because I hate the guy. Like, all the people in the New York office now have to go to Jersey City or … Hoboken. So it’s a Catch-22.”

“I may close the New York office, trust me, I’ve given it a lot of thought because I can’t stand the thought of Mamdani running fu***** New York City. I can’t stand it.”

“But then a part of me is like, how much will actually change?”

“But I really have given it thought. I told our finance guy, start looking around for property. No joke.  Take a principle stand.”

“Thirty-year-old-something communist running New York City who’s never had a job in his life, hates America, doesn’t seem like the best.”

Watch (language warning):

Following Mamdani’s election on Tuesday, Portnoy did not address any immediate plans to move the company, but noted, “But if this is what the people of NYC want than so be it. Thank god I don’t live there anymore.”

Scott Jennings sums up Mamdani perfectly. But if this is what the people of NYC want than so be it. Thank god I don’t live there anymore. https://t.co/4rfDZqs0rJ
