On Wednesday, Democrat Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY) lashed out at the eight Senate Democrats who caved and joined Republicans to reopen the government.
After 40 days of a government shutdown, eight Senate Democrats caved and joined the Republicans to advance legislation to reopen the government.
These Democrat Senators and Independents who caucus with Democrats voted in favor: King (ME) Fetterman (PA), Cortez Masto (NV), Shaheen (NH), Hassan (NH), Rosen (NM) Kaine (VA) and Dick Durbin (IL).
In a stunning admission, Durbin, the Ranking Member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, said the Democrats’ shutdown strategy was to starve children.
“Many of my friends are unhappy. They think we should have kept our government closed indefinitely to protest the policies of the Trump administration,” Durbin said.
Durbin admitted Schumer’s strategy was to starve children.
“But I cannot accept a strategy which wages political battle at the expense of my neighbor’s paycheck or the food for his children,” Durbin said.
AOC went for it on Wednesday and said the eight Democrats voted in favor of reopening the government in exchange for nothing.
“How would you characterize Senator Schumer handled this shutdown?” CNN’s Manu Raju asked AOC.
“We are talking about a coordinated effort of eight senators with the knowledge of Leader Schumer, voting to break with the entire Democratic Party in exchange for nothing,” AOC said to CNN’s Manu Raju ahead of the House’s vote on reopening the government.
“And now people’s health care costs are going to be skyrocketing and we want to make sure that we have a path to ending this and find relief for them right now,” AOC said.
AOC continued to bash the Democrat party.
“But I think that when we talk about this debate about the Democratic Party, it is indeed about the party writ large and our ability to fight or not,” she said.
