At no point did he express support for removing violent traffickers from the battlefield.
In fact, he downplayed the threat: “Maduro is a bad guy. The drug gangs are awful,” Warner acknowledged—before immediately pivoting back to bureaucratic grievances.
In effect, Democrats are attacking the administration for doing what the federal government is supposed to do: stop traffickers, dismantle cartels, and neutralize threats before they reach America’s borders.
Warner’s remarks reflected a worldview in which partisan process matters more than protecting American families from drugs and violence.
He criticized the administration for striking targets tied to a hostile foreign regime and for refusing to “open ourselves up to actual congressional oversight” fast enough to the Democrats’ liking.
Instead of focusing on the criminals the U.S. had just targeted, Warner spent nearly an hour accusing Republicans of failing to raise their hands in protest.
The incident shows how dramatically the Democrat Party has shifted.
At a time when fentanyl deaths are ravaging communities and cartels operate as geopolitical actors, Democrats are furious—not about threats to Americans, but about Trump’s refusal to brief them first.
