President Donald Trump has left the door open to seeking a third term while responding to former strategist Steve Bannon’s claim that plans are already in motion to make it happen.

Bannon, in a recent interview with The Economist, declared that Trump will serve again, stating, “He’s going to get a third term. So Trump ’28. Trump is going to be president in ’28, and people just ought to get accommodated with that.”

The War Room host added that Trump is a “providential instrument” needed to “finish the job” of restoring America, insisting there are “multiple alternatives” and “there’s a plan,” but declined to reveal details yet.

Steve Bannon insists that Donald Trump will be president again for a third term in 2028—and that America needs him to.

When challenged on the Constitution limiting the presidency to two terms, Bannon argued the “will of the American people” could override it, asking, “If the American people, with the mechanisms we have, put Trump back in office, are the American people tearing up the Constitution?”

Trump, speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One en route to Tokyo on Monday, didn’t shut down the idea when asked about Bannon’s comments.

“Sir, Steve Bannon said in a recent interview that there could be plans for you to be able to run and potentially win a third term in 2028,” a reporter began. “Is that something you’d be willing to challenge at the court to be able to do?”

The president did not close the door on the idea.

“I haven’t really thought about it,” Trump began. “We have some very good people as you know, but I have the best poll numbers I’ve ever had. I mean I just solved eight wars and a ninth is coming. I believe Russia Ukraine will happen.”

Trump continued, “But we just did– you know we just left and when you look at the treaty we just did, that was a war. Thousands of people were already shot at the border and when you look at what we just did, it was pretty amazing. We got a lot of pretty good credit. And I really have to thank Malaysia for that because the prime minister and everybody really helped get the two countries together. But, it was quite a great peace treaty. But that was one of eight and it makes me feel good. I mean it’s millions of people we saved. I saved the lives of millions of people. That’s what’s important.”

“You said that for 2028 there are very good people?” the reporter followed up.

The president boasted about the great options we have for 2028, before adding that he would “love to do it.”

“Well, we have great people,” Trump replied. “Well, I don’t have to get into that, but we have one of them standing right here. We have JD, obviously. The vice president is great. Marco is great. I’m not sure if anybody would run again. I think if they have a form to grip it would be unstoppable, I do. I really believe that. I would love to do it. I have my best numbers ever. It’s very terrible. I have my best numbers and if you read it–”

The reporter interjected, “You’re not ruling out a third term?”

“Am I not ruling it out? I mean, you’ll have to tell me. All I can tell you is that we have a great group of people which they don’t,” Trump said.

Speaking with reporters on board Air Force One en route to Japan on Monday, President Trump again refused to rule out a bid for a third presidential term, despite the 22nd Amendment limiting presidents to being elected twice.

Another reporter jumped in and asked if Trump would be willing to run as vice president.

“One theory on how you might try to serve a third term is that you could run as the vice president,” the reporter stated.

“Yeah, I’d be allowed to do that,” Trump responded.

The reporter asked, “Do you think the White House, or the White House counsel [inaudible] is in legal position like this?”

“No, you’d be allowed to that, but I wouldn’t want– I wouldn’t do that. I think it’s too cute,” Trump said.

“You’re ruling that out?” the reporter asked.

Trump replied, “Yeah, I wouldn’t rule that out because it’s too cute. I think the people wouldn’t like that. It’s too cute. It’s not– it wouldn’t be right.”

Trump has long teased a third term, while often claiming that he is just joking.

Speaking to NBC News in March, Trump said of a third term that “there are methods which you could do it” and that “a lot of people want me to do it,” but added that “it is far too early to think about it.”

Trump’s approval stands at 45.1% per RealClearPolitics, his highest ever, and he’s been distributing “Trump 2028” hats to White House visitors.
